On Elara, there are 8 things considered to be elements, the building blocks of reality. They work in pairs of opposites, to keep balance and order in the universe. There are 4 pairs.
Light represents the outer being, the universe around us, and (of course) actual light, and is paired with Life (which represents the inner being) to keep balance in the universe. The light element is manipulated by magic users in magic, using Essence to do so. Light can be used on its own, or combined with other elements to varying degrees for different results.
